Peyton Surgery Update

It’s now been 25 days since Peyton’s surgery to advance his jaws, and open his airway.  We knew it was going to be a long, hard recovery, and it still is.  16 of those 25 days have been spent in the hospital.  The main problem was the loss of appetite.  He got very picky in the foods he wouldn’t eat.  Even shakes and smoothies, staples of this post-surgery diet, he didn’t want to have anything to do with.  Then, we was re-admitted to the hospital last week, because he dropped 17 lbs.  While there, we finally learned he also had developed 2 ulcers, which obviously contributed to him not wanting to eat.

But, after having TPN nutrition being fed to him via IV, and starting to eat more, he has gained 8 lbs back, is back home, and in better spirits.  Only 5 more days before he can have a hamburger!

The good news is that the surgery seems to be successful, and he is sleeping so much better now!  As you can see by the attached pictures, his airway has opened significantly.  No more sleep apnea or snoring.  He is more rested already.

Once again, thank you so much for your prayers and support during this trying time, we sincerely appreciate it!
